Hash Calculator How-To

  1. How to calculate hash for a file?

    Switch to "File" tab, open or drag in a file onto Hash Calculator window. That's it. If you change an hash algorithm, or entered a new HMAC key(for Hash Calculator 1.3 and up), the hash will be updated accordingly.

  2. How to calculate hash for text(string)?

    Switch to "Text" tab, and input some text. That's it. Hash will update as you type in the string or the HMAC key(for Hash Calculator 1.3 and up). If you change an hash algorithm, the hash will be updated accordingly too.

  3. How to compare two files?

    Switch to "Compare" tab, open or drag in two files onto Hash Calculator window. That's it. If you change an hash algorithm, or entered a new HMAC key(for Hash Calculator 1.3 and up), the hash will be updated accordingly.


FAQs

  1. Why I was prompted Application or Bundle not support?

    On Mac OS X, application and bundle are not regular files, they are actually folders. They contain resources and/or executables, so they can not generate a single hash. Just like directories are not able to generate a single hash.

  2. How can I stop a running hash calculation?

    Use menu "Edit" - "Stop Task", or press Command-P.

  3. Can I drag files one by one when I use file compare feature?

    You can't, for now. But it is on our TODO list.

  4. Oops! I found a bug, what should I do?
